According to Sin Chew Daily, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz said he will suggest to the Road Transport Department to explore the possibility of using AWAS (Awakening Safety System) cameras to capture drivers playing with their phones in order to strengthen law enforcement.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz said he will propose to the Road Transport Department to explore the possibility of using the Automatic Shandong Mobile Number List Awareness Safety System (AWAS) cameras to capture drivers using their mobile phones while driving in order to strengthen enforcement.
AWAS was officially launched on April 15 and currently only captures speeding and red light violations.
He told Sin Chew Daily that the
use of mobile phones while driving is becoming more and more serious. The government takes the matter seriously and is taking multiple measures to curb the worsening of the problem.
When asked about former National Traffic Police Afghanistan Phone Number List chief Datuk Ahir’s suggestion last year that the RM300 fine for using mobile phone while driving should be increased, he said the authorities would not increase the fine but would step up enforcement actions.
